African American Lace Wigs

May 5th, 2010

If you look at the hairstyles of most African American TV stars, you will notice that their hair seems to grow at amazing rates and that it is much more bouncy and behaving than the hair of most African Americans.

This is because the latest trend is to wear high quality and often high cost lace wigs. Some celebrities known or suspected of wearing lace wigs are Beyonce, Tyra Banks, Ashanti, and Lil Kim.

Lace wigs come in full lace and lace front. Lace front wigs only have lace on the front of the wig from ear to ear, and looks best when worn with hair down to disguise the fact that you are wearing a wig. A full lace wig has lace all the way around the hairline that allows the wig to invisibly stick to the skin.

Lace wigs can cost anywhere from $59.00 to several thousand dollars. The more the wig costs, the higher the quality you will find in the wig. With proper care, a lace wig can last for several years. While you are more likely to get a better deal on lace wigs online, you are guaranteed better quality if you purchase your wig in person.

These special lace and lace front wigs call for special application to get them to appear like a person’s real hair. Along with your wig, you will need to order special adhesive as well as adhesive remover.

To wear the wig you need to apply the adhesive along the hairline where the lace will stick. This may be around the front of the wig for a lace front, or all always around the hairline. After trimming the lace to a reasonable length, the wearer will then press the lace to the skin after fitting the wig snugly on the head. The lace of the wig should blend with the skin. To further disguise the lace portion of the wig, the user will smooth their baby hair, or the baby hair attached to the wig into the adhesive to create a smooth realistic look.

A lace wig can be worn 24 hours a day for up to 3 weeks. Length of wear time will depend on body chemistry and your reaction to the adhesive. A person who is bald or has significant hair loss can wear the wig longer than someone with a full head of hair can. You can easily find full lace wig demonstrations on how to apply, bond and remove on this site.
